  • Amazon EC2 now provides elastic IP addresses and availability zones:
    • elastic IP addresses are static IP addresses associated to your AWS account which can be remapped on the fly to any EC2 instance,
    • availability zones allows you to control where (meaning which data center) you want to start your EC2 instance

Update:

  • Amazon EC2 also provides user selectable kernels which allow to run a different kernel than the one provided by Amazon, via AWS Blog.
